Turning off notifications could lead to better grades
Researchers at George Mason University have shown that interruptions negatively impact student work. It only took three, one-minute distractions to lower student performance on a measurably. Interestingly, it appears that unplanned distractions such as notifications, text pings etc. negatively impact performance, whereas, “scheduled breaks” to check phones don’t have the same negative impact.
The take-away: put your phones on silent and disable your social media and email alerts while you need to concentrate. If you need to, check them during natural breaks in your studying or working – like at the end of a chapter, or after you finish a practice quiz.
